WATER SAFETY EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
Each year the Galveston Island Beach Patrol provides water safety educational training to over 50,000 people, many of whom are school kids in the Galveston County area. Our goal is to create “herd immunity” by inoculating as many people as possible against drowning by providing information hon how to be safe at the beach before arriving.
Each year beginning in January, our full time staff goes to a number of schools to provide these talks. Our goal is to hit as many schools as possible before spring break, after which time we turn most of our attention to patrolling beaches and protecting swimmers. We will however do our best to meet requests up until May 1st. Sessions range from 15 minutes to an entire class period and can address different sizes of classes, preferably not more than two sessions per school.
We ask that the school provide the following:
- DVD Player or good internet access
- Monitors (several – so everyone can see)
- Microphone for bigger groups and bigger rooms
Usually, our schedule fills up quickly, so reserve your spot as early as possible!
